About the event
The 2025 edition featured a rich variety of sessions designed to connect artists, producers, and cultural leaders from around the world. It opened on
7 July with the
Concert final de la Résidence Instruments, showcasing two world premieres. On
8 July, the
OPERA MAKERS encounters offered a platform for emerging creatives to present new projects to an international audience of professionals, followed by the
Prix Pulsations Contemporaines ceremony, which honoured excellence in contemporary composition. That same day, the
Midi du Festival - a series of debates and meetings around the 2025 festival programming - took place. This session featured
Sivan Eldar (composer of
The Nine Jewelled Deer),
Unsuk Chin (composer and mentor artist of the 2025 Composition Residency at the Academy),
Tanja Elisa Glinsner and
Miles Walter (artists from the 2025 Composition Residency), and
Janis Susskind (director of Boosey & Hawkes Music Publishing). The discussion focused on “
The Festival d’Aix Academy: Career Paths of 21st Century Composers”, offering insights into the journeys of over 180 composers trained at the Academy since its founding by Pierre Boulez in 1998. Participants from the 2025 Composition Residency joined alumni to highlight current challenges in composition and the evolving trajectories within contemporary music. The event concluded on
9 July with
Accord Majeur’s national meeting, centered on the theme “
Musique et Société”, exploring the evolving role of music in public life and cultural policy.
